Hawzah News Agency- the Iranian parliament members in the public meeting during the review of the Social Commission's second report on the bill to amend Article (87) of the Civil Service Management Law, after hearing the opinions of those in favor and against the single article of this bill regarding the announcement of Saturdays as public holiday, with 136 in favor, 66 against and 3 abstentions from a total of 215 representatives present in the meeting agreed.
According to this report, this resolution must be approved by the Guardian Council to be effective.
The single article of this bill states:
Single Article - Article (87) of the Civil Service Management Law approved with subsequent amendments and additions and its notes are amended as follows:
Article 87 - The working hours of the employees of the executive bodies are 40 hours per week, and the arrangement and regulation of the working hours of the departments are determined by the proposal of the administrative and employment organization of the country and the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Council of Ministers is responsible for the relevant party. The amount of teaching hours for teachers and faculty members will be determined from the hours required in the relevant job classification schemes.

the parliament plan aims to attract more tourists and help give a boost to Iran’s foreign trade.
Presently Thursday and Friday are Iran’s weekend days while the parliament is considering to keep Friday as a weekend day and replace Thursday with Saturday as the country’s second weekend day.
More than 90% of the world countries are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and there are only a limited number of countries that are closed on Thursdays and Fridays which has caused Iran’s business activities to be practically cut off with the world four days a week.
Noting that Friday is regarded as a very important religious day in Iran, it is not likely that the government will turn Saturday and Sunday into Iranian weekend days but replacing the present weekend days with Friday and Saturday will also solve a main part of Iran’s trade with the world.
